LAMDA

Holgate Drama offer tuition and support in preparing for LAMDA examinations.

The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) offers a range of examinations in Drama.  LAMDA examinations are accredited by the UK Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) and are graded in the same way as music exams, progressing from Grade 1 to Grade 8. Grades 6, 7 and 8 (Bronze, Silver and Gold Medals) are awarded UCAS points. LAMDA has a reputation for excellence, and these qualifications are well known throughout the field of Drama and Theatre Studies.

For more information please visit their website here.

You can do monologues if you want to act on your own or you can do duologues if you want to act with a friend.  You have to select one from the LAMDA anthology but can then choose something yourself.  Don’t worry - I have a large selection to choose from and it is important that you like the piece that you are doing.

LAMDA is great for developing key acting skills and boosting confidence in performance and in presentational skills.  It is an excellent way to prepare for Drama School and for auditions for parts in local amateur productions.  Sessions would help you develop technical skills such as movement and voice and would also be an opportunity to discuss and create effective characterisation.  I do exams in Acting, Devising and have just recently introduced Musical Theatre.  I do group exams in all of these disciplines.  For younger actors I do Solo Introductory and Speaking Verse and Prose, which is more about reciting poetry and developing communication skills.  As a LAMDA examiner, I can give very specific guidance and feedback in preparing for the exams.
